Wayanad - Attractions

Wayanad— a land blessed with mist and greenery, the paradise of hill stations, brooks and breeze— beckons you to explore the nature’s abundant treasures deposited in its lap. Located at a unique geographic position with altitudes ranging between 700 to 2100 metres, what makes this part of the world enchantingly attractive is its idyllic nature and salubrious climate. Wayanad’s proximity with Ooty and Mysore, the two widely sought-after tourist destinations in south India, makes it still fascinating. The sprawling hills and endless paddy fields of Wayanad are surely a feast for your eyes.

Nilgiris (Tamil Nadu ) and Mysore (Karnataka) on the east, Coorg (Karnataka) on the north and Kannur, Malappuram and Kozhikkode districts on the west are the boundaries of Wayanad. Vellarimala, Banasura, Brahmagiri, Chembra, etc. are some of the major peaks ranging from 1500 to 2100 metres high. You can see bonnet monkeys, loris, mongooses, jungle cats, squirrels, jackals, hares, etc. in the forests. Wayanad has the distinction of accommodating the largest tribal population of Kerala. Their art forms include Vattakali and Koodiyattam, Gadhika, Kolkali and Nellukuthu pattu are prevalent here.
